A fuel tanker loaded with thousands of litres of diesel overturned on Tuesday in the capital Lilongwe after it detached itself from the horse.
Police officials confirmed of the accident in an interview with press, saying some of the fuel spilled on the tarmac.
According to an eyewitness, looters rushed to the scene of the accident with empty containers to help themselves but police officers deployed to scene managed drive away the looters.
Similar incident happened in the commercial capital Blantyre last month involving a train and over 24 thousand litres of diesel was stolen.
