A house that caught fire due to unattended candle in Mangochi district has left father and a son dead while the wife has been admitted following grievous wounds she sustained during the incident.
The deceased have been identified as James Ali (33) and Ekra James (6) while the woman who is still in pains is known by Maimuna Kalembo aged 27.
Mangochi police spokesperson, Rodrick Maida confirmed.
It is said that the 3 were living in a house which was roofed by grasses.
On Wednesday around 8 pm, mother to the wife (Kalembo) who was also living with the family went to a grocery to look for coil.
“Upon arriving home she was shocked to see her son-in-law`s house on fire and she eventually shouted for help,” said Maida.
“Good Samaritans came for help and managed to rescue the wife before rushing her to Mangochi district hospital but the husband and the son were already dead.”
Mangochi district hospital`s postmortem results revealed that the son and his father died due to suffocation secondary to severe burn wounds.
Meanwhile, the woman has been sent to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for further treatment.
The deceased man hailed from Laini village, Traditional Authority Chowe while the son hailed from m`baluku village in the district.
