President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has appointed former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) governor Dr. Perks Ligoya as new board chair for the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM).
According to the statement seen by Faceofmalawi reporter signed by Chief Secretary to Government Lloyd Muhara, the appointment is with immediate effect.
The statement further says that Ligoya ceases to be Chairperson of the Malawi Enterprise Development Fund (Medef) with immediate effect.
Other members of the board include Professor Grant Kululanga, Chikumbutso Mkwamba, Chikumbutso Kalilombe, Pastor Tony Nyirenda, Shrieesh Betgrin and Victoria Mponela.
The Chief Director of Energy, Ministry and Natural Resources, Energy and Mining, Budget Director, Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development and Chief Economist, Department of Statutory Corporations have been appointed as Ex-official members.
Earlier this year, President Mutharika appointed new parastatal board members including those of Electricity Generation Company (Egenco), the Central Region Water Board (CRWB), Blantyre Water Board (BWB) and Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) following the expiry of the mandates for previous boards or dissolution of the boards.
