Veteran politician Robson Watayachanga Chirwa, has died. He served as a long time cabinet minister under Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda.
Close relatives say Chirwa breathed his last around mid-day today at Lilongwe Private Clinic. Born on 29 October, 1931, Chirwa’s highs in his long political journey includes ‘warm seating’ Malawi State president’s seat alongside his counterparts the late Gwanda Chakuamba, and John Tembo.
The three performed presidential duties when Dr. Kamuzu Banda was incapacitated and admitted before being flown out to South Africa’s Garden City Clinic.
Chirwa was also one of the founders and pillars of the Mzimba Heritage Association; a grouping of all Ngoni’s under the Inkosi ya Makosi Mbelwa.
He dies donning a reputation of a humble veteran, who was ready to give advice to people across the political divide as well as religious circles.
