Mangochi police spokesperson, Rodrick Maida has confirmed the death of a teenage boy identified as Edson Asima who died after a crocodile attacked him earlier this week.
Maida said that the boy was with his friends swimming on this fateful day when the incident happened.
“The deceased together with his friends went for swimming in Lake Malombe at Kambulire Dock. In the process, a hungry crocodile came from nowhere and caught the boy then went away with him into the deep waters in the Lake,” Maida said.
Later community members mobilized themselves for a search and the body was found with wounds.
Postmortem done at Lukalanga health facility showed that the death was due to suffocation and excessive blood loss.
The 14 year old boy hailed from Kambulire village, Traditional Authority Chimwala in Mangochi district.
Police had previously warned people not to swim in crocodile infested waters following the death of two people in the same district who were also killed by crocodiles.
