Leader of the United States of Thyolo and Mulanje Vincent Wandale will spend a week in police cell after being denied bail by Blantyre Principal Magistrate Court on Monday.
Wandale was arrested on Friday last week for allegedly obtaining money amounting to three million from villagers in Thyolo by false pretense.
Appearing in court on Monday, Wandale raised a number of issues including his health, saying he needs special attention.
But the state blocked the plea, arguing that releasing Wandale on bail would jeopardise investigations.
After analyzing the submissions from both parties, Principal Magistrate Innocent Nebi denied Wandale’s bail.
Meanwhile Wandale has described his arrest as political orchestrated by Chief Ngolongoliwa of Thyolo.
