Over 120 armed police officers accompanied by Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) on Wednesday night invaded the house of Rumphi East Member of Parliament Kamlepo Kalua on suspicion that he invaded tax.

Kalua, who is also opposition People’s Party (PP) Third Vice President for the north is being accused of not remitting tax after purchasing two vehicles from outside the country.

Kalua confirmed of the development in an interview with the press on Thursday morning, saying it’s a plot by the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to assassinate him.

“I am told they had instructions to pick me up, kill me. Imagine, they were trying to break my house doors as if vehicles are kept in a house,” said Kalua.

Kalua said he was told the MRA officers were combing for evidence on evasion of duty of his vehicles.

He said contrary to what the MRA officials think, he has two vehicles which he bought duty free as a privilege for being a member of parliament.

It is also said the police officers also invade the house of Kamlepo’s son Fredokiss, real name Fred Penjani Kalua in Namiwawa.

Effort to talk to National police spokesperson James Kadadzera proved futile.
