A 17 year old woman has hanged herself to death in Mangochi after killing her three-year-old biological son.
Police in Mangochi have confirmed of the incident in an interview with the press and identified the woman as Gertrude Gwedemula and her late son as Talandira William.
According to the police, the deceased committed the act out of frustration after son’s father refused to marry her.
The police said that Gwedemula was in a relationship with William Joza who promised to marry her.
“Gertrude then got pregnant and gave birth to Talandira but William refused to marry her. Three years passed without marriage arrangements. The development did no please the deceased who resorted in taking her own life and that of the child,” read in part the police statement.
Gwedemula hails from Divala Village, Sub-Traditional Authority Mtonda in the district.
