Over 480 primary school teachers are holding a vigil at the office of the District Education Manager in Nsanje demanding their April 2016 salaries.

The teachers were erroneously listed as ghost workers by the National Audit Office (NAO) and removed from the pay roll following last year’s head count and payroll audits.

The teachers have now been joined by concerned parents as classes have stopped in schools within the district since Monday.

District Commissioner Gift Rapozo confirmed the development saying he is currently at the Accountant General’s office trying to resolve the matter.
