As Malawians are eagerly waiting for the truth to come out on the cause of the fire that gutted down the office of former Minister Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. George Chaponda, information sourced by Faceofmalawi indicates that renovation of the office has started.

Minister of Finance and Economic Development Goodall Gondwe confirmed of the development in an interview with one of the local daily papers (The Nation).

The development has attracted debate among Malawians with others, saying the renovation will affects the results of the police investigations.

Chaponda’s office caught fire few days after the commission of inquiry into the maize-gate scandal instituted by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika recommended that the then Minister of Agriculture be investigated over his alleged involvement in the procurement of maize.

The commission of inquiry headed by retired Chief Justice Ananstazia Msosa said the involvement of Chaponda in the procurement was suspicious.
Many people including opposition political parties suspected foul play on the fire.

Chaponda was fired from his position after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) raided his house and confiscated money amounting to MK160 million.
