Fired Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. George Chaponda on Sunday shunned the installation of Senior Chief Ngolongoliwa to Paramount Chief attended by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.

The function was held at Mulhako wa Alhomwe Headquarters at Chonde in Mulanje.

The absence of Chaponda shocked many people who attended the ceremony considering the fact that the ceremony was held in his constituency which is Mulanje South West Constituency.

Others even went further by speculating that Chaponda is not good terms with President Mutharika who fired him as Minister of Agriculture.

Welcoming the audience on the ceremony, DPP Secretary General Greselder Jeffrey, popularly known as Jeffrey wa Jeffrey apologisized to the general public for Chaponda’s absence, saying he was out of the country for private mission.

“A Chaponda sitilinawo pano lero chifukwa alikunja kwa dziko on private mission koma andiuza ine kuti ndikulandileni nose ndi mukhgale omatsuka,” she said.

Chaponda was fired as Minister of Agriculture two months ago after the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) invaded his house and confiscated money amounting to MK160 million.

Since his firing, Chaponda has not been seen in most of the functions held by President Mutharika.
