A 27-year-old Maliseni Misomali has found himself a way to police jail after he was caught impersonating a police officer at Kamphasi Village in Dowa.

It is reported that on 27 May, Misomali went to Gomani Trading Centre where he approached a businessman who owns a bar and asked him to produce a liquor licence which he replied that he didn`t have. According to Dowa police spokesperson Richard Kaponda.

“The suspect then asked the businessman, Redson Bikitoni to pay K30, 000 for failing to show his liquor licence but the man only negotiated to pay K25.000,” said Richard Kaponda.

As if that was not enough, over the weekend, Misomali also went to Kamphasi Trading Centre with the same trick of impersonating a police officer and this time he asked Titani Molovesi, who also runs a bar to show him a liquor licence.

Responding to Misomali, the bar owner asked him to first reveal his police identity card but he did not comply with that.

The businessman suspected something fishy was going on and he alerted the chairman of community policing forum in the area who apprehended Misomali.

At Dowa police station, Misomali admitted that he was not a cop.

He is to answer the charge of impersonating a public officer which is contrary to section 99, sub section B of the penal code.

Misomali comes from Kainja Village, Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa.
