Three robbers who broke into a shop in Mchinji district and went away with a total cash of K3 million have been arrested by police in the district.
Mchinji police publicist, Kaitano Lubrino identified one of the criminals as Binali Mataka, 34, who got arrested in wee hours of Monday by police officers on patrol who got suspicious of his movements.
Police then received a report immediately after arresting him saying a Metro shop in the district had been broken into by robbers who went away with cash.
It is said that the robbers tied the watchman`s legs and hands then broke into the shop using the gas apparatus.
Police then connected Mataka with that robbery and recovered a motor vehicle Toyota Passo registration number MH 1617 and a gas tube which are believed to have been used during the robbery.
Mataka`s arrest led to the arrest of two more suspects identified as Yasin Chilumpha, 29, and Pemba Katinji, 24, who were arrested in Zomba and Blantyre respectively.
The watchman is also up for questions as he is suspected to have connived with the thugs.
Among other items, Police have recovered cash amounting to K906, 000, two motor vehicles, 2 plasma screens, 1 laptop, 3 Digital cameras and 2 gas cylinders.
It has been established that the criminals hand a hand in violent robberies at Kasungu PTC, Ntcheu PTC, Dedza FMB, Salima OIBM, Nkhotakota PTC and Ntaja Sobo Depot.
The first suspect, Mataka comes from Kapire village T/A Chimwala in Mangochi, Chilumpha hails from Chikolongo village Mulumbe in Zomba while Katinji is from Litunji village T/A Katuli in Mangochi.
They will soon appear in court to answer robbery charges.
