Thugs on Tuesday invaded the house of Member of Parliament (MP) for Karonga central constituency, Frank Tumpale Mwenifumbo (Alliance for Democracy –Aford) in Area 47, Lilongwe.

Mwenifumbo disclosed this in Parliament on Wednesday when he was contributing on the 2017/18 national budget presented in the house by Minister of Finance and Economic Development Goodall Gondwe.

Narrating the whole ordeal, Mwenifumbo said unknown man on Tuesday entered his house pretending to be desperate for help, saying his child was very sick.

He said the said criminal who identified himself as Lex Phiri claimed to be a distance neighbour working under Total Land Care.

“I told him to jump into my car to take the sick child at his home to the hospital. However, after noticing some suspicious signs, I then called the boss of the Total Land Care Mr Zwide Jere who told me that they don’t have someone with such name and that everyone at his office have personal vehicle,” he disclosed.

According to Mwenifumbo, he shot his gun in the air to chase the said criminal.

“The criminal run out of my house to a distance and started shooting at my get, and we exchanged the fire. After I overpowered him, I saw a brand new Toyota Fortuner which was brown in colour without a number plate coming to pick him away,” he said.

Mwenifumbo attributed the attack to the ongoing investigation by his committee regarding the award of contract by to SAWA group by NRWB.

He said the incident has been reported to the police.

Meanwhile the Malawi Police Service is yet to comment on the matter.
