The Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) has rescinded its decision to hike rentals of its houses across the country by over 100 percent.

The development comes barely days after tenants residing in MHC houses threatened to hold national wide protest.

MHC spokesperson Ernestina Lunguzi confirmed the withdrawal in an interview with the press, saying the notice has been delivered to all tenants.

Earlier, Lunguzi justified the hike saying the adjustment was aimed at ensuring the Corporation maintains the houses for the betterment of its tenants.

The adjustments were made differently based on house location, size and class.
