A man who drove a van into a crowd in London may have targeted Muslim worshippers leaving a mosque after late-night prayers during Ramadan.
The Muslim Council, Great Britain’s largest Muslim umbrella group, announced on Twitter that the crowd hit by the van was leaving a mosque in Finsbury Park in north London. The individuals who were hit appeared to be leaving a late-night prayer session during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
“Our thoughts and prayers with those who got injured and effected by this cowardly attack in Finsbury Park area, many casualties in the floor,” tweeted Mohammed Kozbar, the chairman of the Finsbury Park Mosque.
The Daily Mail reported at least 10 people were injured and a white, clean-shaven man was arrested. Police have not yet confirmed any of that information, only stating one person was arrested and multiple people have been injured.
CNN reported the mosque has a history of militant preachers, but has become more moderate in recent years.
