A police detective stationed at Nkhunga Police Unit in Nkhotakota has been killed by a man believed to be mentally ill, faceofmalawi can reveal.

Nkhunga police spokesperson Labani Makalani confirmed of the incident in an interview with the press and identified the deceased as Sub-Inspector Rodgers Kastomu.

According to Makalani, Kastom mate his fate on Saturday while on duty at Ngala Full Primary School where he was providing security in the ongoing National Registration exercise.

“The officer was unexpectedly attacked by the man who seriously hacked him in the head by using a sharp metal.

“The officer sustained three cuts in the head,” Makalani said.

He said the late Kastom was rushed to Ngala Health Centre where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Kastom was working at criminal investigation department at Nkhunga police station.
