Police in Nkhotakota on Tuesday found the body of a six year old girl (name withheld) who went missing after she went to receive Measles – Rubella Vaccine with her friends.
According to the police, an autopsy revealed that she was sexually abused before being
dumped in a nearby stream.
Confirming the development, Nkhunga Police Station Public Relations Officer, Labani Makalani,
said the girl went missing last Friday at Kachiwunda Village popularly known as Kakuyu in the
area of Traditional Authority (T/A) Kanyenda in Nkhotakaota.
“The girl alongside her friends, left home at about 2 o’clock in the afternoon to receive Measles-
Rubella Vaccination at a site within the village but never came back,” he said.
Makalani said the deceased’s father, Rodrick Kadzama, 24, started searching for his daughter
after she did not come back with her friends that evening and upon failing to find her, he
reported the matter to Nkhunga Police Station.
The girl was discovered dead with her body floating in a stream within the village.
A team of police officers led by the Station Criminal Investigations Officer (SCIO), Assistant
Superintendent Frank Makwalo, alongside a medical officer visited the crime site and conducted
an autopsy which established that the victim was defiled before being drowned.
The police suspect that the criminals might have killed the girl to destroy evidence of defilement.
Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the case to apprehend the culprits.
