Police on Tuesday morning used teargas to disperse angry drivers and minibus conductors who ganged up to protest against what they are calling “harsh conditions” imposed on them by traffic police.

The drivers and minibus conductors decorated the roads in Area 18 with stones and burning tyres and others were chanting anti-traffic songs.

Armed police officers rushed to the scene and dispersed the angry drivers with teargas.

According to reports, calm has been restored in the city and very few minibuses are on the roads.

Similar incident happened in Blantyre on Friday and three police units were torched in Machinjiri Township.

The same also happened in Karonga district in the northern region.
