As robbers continue to cause havoc across the country, information sourced by faceofmalawi indicates that police in Salima have shot dead a suspected thief.
Salima Police spokesperson Gift Chitowe confirmed of the development in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS).
According to Chitowe, the deceased together with his colleague invaded the house of Steven Michael and went away with motorcycle.
“After noticing that the motorcycle is missing, the owner swiftly informed the police who rushed to scene and the officers bumped into the suspected thieves who were trying to hide the motorbike at a nearby bush,” said Chitowe.
He said the police officers fired in the air to stop the said thieves from running away but unfortunately the bullet landed in the stomach of one of the suspected thief.
The thief was pronounced dead upon arrival at Salima District Hospital.
Meanwhile police are hunting for another suspect who is currently at large.
