Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) has hiked house rentals by over 100 percent attracting tension among Malawians.
MHC spokesperson Ernestina Lunguzi confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying the increase is with effect from July 1 2017.
“Our adjustment is not limited to one percentage. It varies with the categories of the houses. We could not do otherwise because we are conducting maintenances of our houses across the country. And the adjustment meets the current standards,” said Lunguzi.
Lunguzi further said the institution has conducted maintenances on houses in some districts like Mzimba, Rumphi, Nkhata Bay and Mzimba.
Although this is the case, Nyumba24, Malawi’s number one real estate website with tons of new houses is the answer to all the problems raised by tenants regarding the hike.
Nyumba24 contains houses for rents and for sale.
