Lilongwe city council (LCC) has given 30 days of grace period to its debtors to pay back over K2.6. Billion of city rates.

Those with the council`s money include some individuals, Non-governmental organizations, companies, religious institutions and political parties.

In a statement signed by the council`s acting executive officer, Charles Makanga, the grace period started running from July 5, and if the debtors won’t pay within 30 days from July 5 they will have to face unspecified action.

According to the Acting CEO Charles Makanga, the debtors have outstanding city rates for more than three years.
