Former Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. George Chaponda is expected to appeal in court today.
Chaponda was arrested on Wednesday together with Transglobe Director Rashid Tayub over suspected fraud in the Zambia maize-gate scandal.
The two spent a night at Blantyre Police cell and it is reported that there is heavy presence of the police at the cell.
According to the source who is currently at the scene, the entrance to Blantyre is manned by close to 15 police officers.
On Wednesday evening, protesters who had waited outside the ACB entrance for many hours, mobbed the vehicle carrying the two whilst chanting ‘atuluke! atuluke!’.
Police had to use the backdoor for the two to get into the government vehicle which whisked them away.
