A 27-year old man identified as Faison Chitundu in Machinga Nselema has been arrested after being found cultivating the illegal Cannabis Sativa.
According to Machinga police publicist Dave Sulumba, the man was arrested after the police raided his garden following a tip by well-wishers.
415 plants of cannabis sativa were uprooted by police from his garden at Wandikanga village in Machinga District.
Adding on the 415 uprooted plants from the garden which is 50 metres away from his house, police also seized a half kilogramme of un planted roots from his house.
The farmer is in custody pending court proceedings soon on charges of illegal growing and possession of cannabis sativa which is contrary to regulations 6 and 4, section 19 of Dangerous Drugs Act respectively.
Chitundu hails from Wandikanga village, in the area of Traditional Authority Chowe in Mangochi district.
