A 40 year old woman is reported dead in the evergreen city of Mzuzu after being hit a vehicle this morning.
Mzuzu Deputy Police spokesperson Cecilia Mfune confirmed of the development in a statement made available to faceofmalawi and identified the deceased as Helen Phiri.
“At about 6:00 hours unknown driver was driving Toyota Passo registration number BU 8255 from Mzuzu City towards Mchengautuwa direction with two passengers on board.
“Upon reaching Reserve Bank he collided with a pedal cyclist who carried a female pillion passenger ( the deceased).Due to the impact the woman sustained head injuries and internal bleeding, she died upon arrival at Mzuzu Central Hospital. The cyclist sustained head injuries and had a fracture on his right leg now admitted at the said hospital,” reads in part the statement.
She added: “The unknown driver and the said passengers escaped with no injuries. Mean while police officers are hunting for the driver and the vehicle has been impounded at Mzuzu Police Station.”
Phiri hails from Kanthete Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kabunduli Nkhata-Bay.
