Mzuzu police deputy publicist, Cecillia Mfune has confirmed the death of a 40-year-old woman who on Thursday died after the bicycle she was riding on collided with a car.

Mfune identified the deceased as Helen Phiri who was on the pillion seat of the bicycle.

Reports say, as the bicycle was passing Reserve Bank in Mzuzu around 6 a.m., a Toyota Passo registration number BU 8255 heading towards Mchengautuwa came from nowhere and suddenly collided with the bicycle.

Due to the hit, the woman who was on the back seat of the bicycle sustained serious head injuries and internal bleeding.

Also the cyclist in front of the bicycle had head injuries and a fracture on his right leg.

The woman died upon arrival at Mzuzu hospital while the cyclist was treated.

The driver of the vehicle ran away leaving behind the car and two passengers who were on board.

The vehicle is in police hands and police are hunting for the driver who is still at large.
