A suspect who was awaiting to answer murder charges has yet committed another serious crime which involves the killing of a prison guard`s 7-year-old son.
The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Blessings Mbavi who was at time of committing the crime remanded at Chirwa Approved Reformatory Centre in Zomba for charges of murder which he previously committed, according to Eastern Region police spokesperson Joseph Sauka.
Sauka reported saying that the suspect made friends with the victim`s father, Moses Sadick who is a security guard at the centre Mbavi was remanded.
“He also got to know Sadick`s family such that he used to visit his house and spend time with his kids,” said Sauka.
As usual, on 6th August, the suspect visited the family`s house and only found the young boy alone.
When his parents got back , they discovered he was not in and neighbours revealed he was last seen with Mbavi.
After he was questioned, Mbavi confessed to have killed the child and deposited his body at a nearby bush.
He was later found with head and private parts almost completely chopped off. Medical results showed that the death was due to severe blood loss.
The suspect hails from Nkhongo village, T/A Kayenda in Nkhotakota and he is to appear in court soon to answer murder charges.
