Suspected thief in Chiradzulu escaped death by a thin thread after being caught red-handed stealing from the house of a nurse at Milepa Health Centre.

The fact of the matter is that, on Monday at around 11:00am the suspected thief entered the house of Mr. Jere who was away with an ill motive.

It is said that the nurse’ wife went to sell freezes but after a while decided to check at the house as her husband had gone for studies.

“Upon entering the house, she heard a strange noise from her bed room. After checking the room, she noticed that a thief was packing things in a bag. Later she shouted and in no time patients and guardians who were at the health Centre stormed the house and apprehended the thief.

“The thief was beaten severely and pretended as if he had fainted. Then the mob started putting things where he slept to set him on fire. As fire was being set, he jumped and run out of the fire. He was rescued by Police Officers from Milepa Police Unit and called their colleagues from the district,” said an eyewitness by the name of Ganizani Mulewa.

The thief is currently receiving medical treatment at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
