Police in Phalombe are keeping in custody a 23 year old man for allegedly stabbing his colleague to death at drinking joint.
The suspect has been identified as Steven Nampinga who hails from Chanasa Village in the area of the Traditional Authority Mkhumba in the district.
It is said that the victim known as Wyson Mbalule aged 31 was taking beer with the suspect on Saturday evening. And while there the quarrel erupted between the two and the suspect tried to run away but was caught by the deceased.
Speaking during in an interview with Phalombe Police public Relation Officer (PRO) Augustus Nkhwazi said the deceased produced the knife during the fight.
“A fight broke out between the two and in the course of the fight it is believed that the deceased produced a knife with intention to stab the suspect but the accused grabbed it and stabbed the deceased instead around the neck,” said Nkhwazi.
He added that the victim was rushed to Phalombe health centre in the effort to save his life and however he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Post-mortem results have disclosed that Mbalule died due to internal bleeding.
However the Police have arrested the suspect who is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges of murder contrary to section 209 of Malawi penal code.
The deceased was coming from Mangoza Village also in the area of Traditional Authority Mkhumba as of the accused in the district.
