Two men are in police custody in Lilongwe after the police found them with fake US Dollars.
Sub-inspector Esther Mkwanda for kanengo police has identified the two suspects as Samu Chunga, 48 and Homes Nkhoma, 34 who was apprehended on August 22, at Lumbadzi Trading Centre.
On that fateful day, the two approached a Pakistan national and offered him the fake US$900 notes and he later raised an alarm.
“On August 19, 2017, Chunga and Nkhoma sold fake US$1000 in US$50 notes to a Pakistan businessman based at Lumbadzi Trading Centre who realized later after the transactions were made that the notes were fake and he reported the matter to the police,” Mkwanda said.
Following this incident, police have seized 38 fake notes of US$50.
The two will appear in court to answer the charges of selling articles bearing designs in imitation of currency under section 382 of the penal code.
