76 illegal immigrants have been arrested on Thursday in Chiweta hills along the Mzuzu M1 road.
Northern region immigration public relations officer, Blackwell Lungu has identified them as 75 Ethiopian Nationals and one Burundian.
Other five Malawians were also arrested for providing other kinds of help to the immigrants.
“Immigration officials mounted a roadblock along the road and indeed three minibuses carrying the illegal immigrants were nabbed. Even though they tried to escape and hide in Chiweta Hills after realizing that there was a roadblock, our officers followed and caught them,” he said.
Lungu has also expressed concern over some Malawians who are fond with a tendency of helping such illegal immigrants stating that that`s being unpatriotic to this country.
