First Grade Magistrate Cecilia Onsewa has sentenced a man to 11 years in prison for illegally selling land which did not belong to him.

The convict has been identified as Chisoni Dzikambani who sold land to Bester Banda that originally belongs to Grace Muloza at K5 million.

In November 2006, the buyer, Banda had managed to pay a sum K4, 570.000.00 and later in July this year, figured out that Dzikambani was not the owner of the plot.

He was later arrested and charged with three counts of uttering false documents which is contrary to Section 360 of the Penal Code.

Making false documents contrary to Section 364 and obtaining money by false pretence which is contrary to Section 319 of the Penal Code.

In passing judgement, First Grade Magistrate Cecilia Onsewa slapped Banda with six, three and two years Imprisonment with Hard Labour (IHL) for each of the offences but will run concurrently.

Banda tried to plead for leniency but Magistrate Onsewa ruled that he deserved a hard punishment to act as a lesson to others.

Dzinkambani hails from Mzimani village in the area of Traditional Authority Chakhumbira in Ntcheu.
