The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has asked the presiding magistrate in the maize-gate case involving former Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. George Chaponda to recuse himself.

The ACB made the application on Tuesday through Macmillan Chakhala.

In the application, the State argues that the Magistrate identified as Simeon Mdeza made a comment when the defence and State met in his Chambers which commended the credibility of Transglobe Produce Export Limited.

The state has also proposed that matter should be transferred to the High Court.

Meanwhile the magistrate will make a ruling on the application on Wednesday afternoon.
