A pharmacy technician at Lilongwe District Health Office has been arrested for stealing 30 cartons of surgical gloves worth K1.5 million.

Central region police spokesperson, Nollete Chihana identified the suspect as Evans Mkulunga and another suspect, an ambulance driver who is currently at large identified as Rafig Tewe.

It is reportedly that the pharmacy technician took the stolen items at his house in Likuni using a Land Cruiser Ambulance being driven by the second suspect.

Following that, the news was reported to police after the Director of Drug Investigation Unit at Lilongwe District Health Office became suspicious.

Mkulunga was later arrested in the afternoon at his office after the police took further steps.

He is therefore expected to appear in court soon and answer the charge of theft by public servant contrary to section 283 of the penal code.

Meanwhile, police are still on the hunt for the driver as an accomplice to the crime.
