Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has described President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as coward over remarks that the opposition connived with the Public Affairs Committee (PAC) to overthrow his leadership through the 50+1 electoral system.

On Tuesday President Mutharika turned the official of the Chichiri Business Park to battlefield and dressed down Chakwera and PAC.

“I want to tell the Reverend, the foul-mouthed Reverend, that I will meet him on the ground in 2019…I will beat the socks out him.

“The so called 50+1 bill was never about electoral reforms. It was about bringing down this government by force. That was an idea by a small faith based group acting on behalf of the opposition to bring down this government by December 31,” said Mutharika.

Reacting to this claim, Chakwera said Mutharika is afraid of his own shadow.

“Is he that scared? Is that his level of reasoning? Is that the level of intelligence he gets to and the conclusion he makes? How does that tally? Who does he think we are?” queried Chakwera.

On his PAC Chairperson Father Felix Chingota trashed the accusation saying it’s baseless.
