Information sourced by faceofmalawi indicates that former Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Dr. George Chaponda has barred from attending public functions with immediate effect.
According to information at hand, the ban has been effected by President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as one way of restoring the image of the party.
The ban is reaction to the criticisms the party has been getting for entertaining Chaponda who is currently answering a corruption case relating to the dubious purchase of maize from Zambia.
Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have on several times asked the ruling DPP to fire Chaponda as it’s Vice for the South until his corruption case is concluded.
When contacted for a comment, DPP Spokesperson Francis Kasaila said he is not aware of the development.
According to Kasaila, the Party will act on Chopnda when the case is concluded.
Chaponda was last seen attending DPP function in Ndirande in October.
