Inspector General of Police Lexten Kachama has come out of his cocoon to trash rumours circulating on the social media alleging that he is planning to join the main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) after his retirement next year.

Kachama trashed the rumour in an interview with Zodiak Broadcasting Station (ZBS) on Wednesday, accusing perpetrators of having hidden agenda.

“Let me make it clear that the rumour is not true aimed at tarnishing my image.

“When I get a chance of getting my retirement, I don’t have that intention of joining politics, it’s unfortunate that people are pushing me into politics,” said Kachama.

Earlier this week the social media was awash with reports that Kachama is eying a Parliamentary seat in the forthcoming tripartite election and is on the move to join MCP.

The rumour attracted mixed reactions with many people questioning the authenticity of the whole story.

Meanwhile Kachama’s term of office will expire next year.
