Police in Balaka are keeping in custody a 22-year old man for wounding his wife’s sister by pouring hot porridge onto her after she tried to rescue him from arguing with his wife.
Balaka police station public relations officer Inspector Edith Kachotsa identified the suspect as Lovemore Joseph who hails from Mmanga village in the area of traditional authority Nsamala in Balaka.
According to the PRO, the incident happened after the victim, Christina Friday, 32, went with the suspect’s wife to see a sick daughter who was admitted at Machinga District Hospital.
“On their way back, they met with Josephy who is a husband to the victim’s sister. He started insulting the wife without disclosing the reasons.
“The two got on with the quarrel till they reached their house where Josephy started assaulting his wife.
“The victim followed the couple to rescue her sister but in course of the attempt, her brother in-law took a pot full of hot porridge and poured onto her, explained Inspector Kachotsa.
Joseph was arrested after the matter was reported to police and he is being held in custody on charges of acts intended to cause grievous harm contrary to section 235 of the penal code.
He will appear in court soon.
