One of the opposition political parties in the country Umodzi Party(UP) on Saturday launched Chancellor College Umodzi Party wing.

Grace Fonseka who is the Director of Women for the party said currently the CHANCO Umodzi Party wing has thirty eight members but the number is expected to grow as time passes by.

She said similar initiatives have also being done at Mzuzu University and Technical College in the north as well as in Lilongwe saying the aim is for the party to interact with students from the country’s Institution of higher learning.

“We want to get views of students from our Universities because they stay with different people and they take part in making decisions on some of the important issues in the country,” she said.

Fonseka added that another wing is expected to be launched at Polytechnic and other colleges in the southern region because they are making step by step.

Previously during the fight for change from one party to multiparty system of government students from Chancellor College and Polytechnic took a crucial role by making demonstrations against the one party regime such that some of them were arrested and beaten.
