A 19-year-old boy in Likoma has died after drowning in Lake Malawi on Monday.
Police in Likoma have identified the boy as Julius Kanjaya who went to the lake on the said day with an intention of refreshing his body.
Reports indicate that the boy was also epileptic such that he was mostly under the control of family members.
When his parents realized that he was nowhere to be seen, they started searching for him from their relatives and his schoolmates but the efforts yielded nothing until his body was found flouting on the lake the following day on Tuesday, 27th March.
Fishermen retrieved his body from the lake and reported the matter to Likoma Police Station.
After the police visited the scene, the body was taken to St Peter’s Mission Hospital where an autopsy revealed that the death was due to suffocation.
The deceased was a form 2 student at Chipyera community day secondary school and he came from Mani village in the area of traditional authority Mkumpha in the same district.
