A 37 year old man identified as Mavuto Chitheka who was staying at Katantha in Area 36 in Lilongwe on Sunday committed suicide.
In an interview with the Malawi News Agency, Lilongwe police spokesperson, Kingsley Dandaula said Mtsinje Police Unit received information from Alex Chilombo 53 of Njonja village in the area of Traditional Authority Kachele in Dedza that his nephew had hanged himself in his house.
“Chitheka (deceased) who was working as a bricklayer went to drink bear within Area 36 and after that he went back home and hanged himself in his house,” said Dandaula.
He further said when his friends came back at around 18hours they found him hanging and after reporting the matter to police they took the body to Kamuzu Central Hospital where he was certified dead due to suffocation.
The deceased hailed from Njonja Village in the Area of Traditional Authority Kachele in Dedza district.
Police is therefore urging the public not to end their life when they have problems but they should rather talk to elders for counseling.
