Women in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have come on the open to trash remarks made by former first lady endorsing Saulos Chilima as the party’s torchbearer in the forthcoming tripartite election, saying women in the party treat the remarks as personal.

This has been said in a statement released on Thursday signed by DPP Deputy Publicity Secretary Zelia Chikale made available to faceofmalawi.

According to Chikale, women in DPP are not happy with the remarks made by some individuals aimed at dividing the party by describing President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika as not fit to stand for Presidency in the 2019 polls.

“It should be understood that, we respect every Malawian and as women who are guided a democratic, a lawyer, a wise and dynamic leader Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, we consider such sentiments as personal opinion made on their capacity as Malawians living in democratic country, therefore such sentiments have no effect in our party,” reads in part the statement.
