Three children aged between six and ten have been found dead after flooding waters washed them away on Saturday in Rumphi district.

Rumphi police spokesperson Victor Khamisi has identified the now deceased children as Ethel Mbewe, Blessings Ndlovu and Anthony Ndlovu.

According to Khamisi, the three went to Chiphakasa River in the district with an aim to bath and wash their clothes. “Due to a heavy downpour, the river flooded and the children were swept away by the flooding waters,” said Khamisi. They were later found dead by people who were sent by their grandmother after she discovered that they were taking long to return. Meanwhile, police have advised adults not to let children go to rivers alone especially this rainy season to avoid similar incidents.
