Two people have died while one other has sustained serious injuries after the motor cycle they were riding collided with a lorry along M1 road in Ntcheu district.
Ntcheu Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer Sergeant Andrew Kamanga identified the two deceased persons as 32-year-old Mr Nduzayani Marko Ndau and Francisco James, 27 while a female pillion passenger who escaped with multiple injuries was identified as 33-year-old Alinafe Charles.
According to Seargent Kamanga, in the early hours of Monday, Mr Jamson Misomali was driving a Isuzu lorry with registration number MHG 2024 from the direction of Dedza heading to Ntcheu.
“Upon arrival at Ntcheu Boma near small holder shop, the vehicle collided with an oncoming unregistered motorcycle which encroached to the off side lane and had two pillion passengers on board,” said the deputy PRO.
Due to the impact, the two died on the spot while one other female motorcycle passenger sustained two serious fractures on the leg and right hand and she was rushed to Ntcheu District Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, police are advising all road users to observe speed limit and refrain from drink and driving to avoid such incidents.
Mr Ndau hailed from Masitimale village in the area of traditional authority Kwataine in Ntcheu while Francisco James hailed from Tembo village in the area of traditional authority Msamala in Balaka district.
