Police in Zambia over the weekend arrested arrested a 28-year old man who stole his sister’s six-months old son so he could sell him for K7,000.00.

Richard Mwewa was apprehended shortly after he broke into his 19-year old sister’s house and made away with her son.

Police spokesperson Esther Mwata Katongo confirmed the matter adding that three “prospective buyers” of the baby have also been arrested and detained along with Mwewa.

“Brief facts are that during the midnight of that day, the named suspect broke into the complainant’s house and entered the bedroom where he allegedly stole the baby whilst the mother who is the complainant was fast asleep,” Katongo stated.

“As the suspect was leaving the bedroom, she woke up and shouted for help and the suspect was apprehended and after searching him, it was discovered that he had stolen the complainants baby which he hid in the coat he was wearing.”

Katongo stated that “After investigations it was revealed that the suspect intended to sell the baby at K7,000.00.

Police apprehended three accomplices. All have been jointly charged with Child Stealing and will appear in court soon.
