Former opposition People’s Party (PP) Member of Parliament for Karonga South Malani Mtonga has finally joined the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.
Mtonga made the announcement on Sunday during a rally organized by DPP Secretary General Grezelder Jeffrey wa Jeffrey at Hara Primary School Ground.
Speaking to people gathered at the venue Jeffrey wa Jeffrey who was franked by DPP governor for the north Kenneth Sanga said Mtonga’s move to join the blue camps is a clear sign that the party is gaining popularity in the north.
Jeffrey wa Jeffrey also took advantage of the event to urge the party from the north to support Mutharika’s candidature in the 2019 polls and not Vice President Saulos Chilima’s as championed by former first lady Callista Mutharika.
On his part, Mtonga said he will do whatever it takes to make sure that President Mutharika returns his seat in the forthcoming polls.
Mtonga emerged victorious during 2014 polls under PP ticket.
