Police Arrest Suspected Gay Man in Mzimba

Police in Mzuzu are keeping in custody a 24-year-old man suspected to be involved in homosexuality.

Northen Region Police Public Relations Officer Peter Kalaya has identified the suspect at Limbani Sibande who was arrested last week on Wednesday.
According to Kalaya, the gay suspect has been charged with an offence of ‘gross indecency’ – same offence which Tiwonge Chimbalanga famously Known as Aunt Tiwo was charged with together with his gay partner Steven Muonjeza in 2010.
The arrest comes at a time when some human rights groups are demanding that laws banning homosexuality should be removed stating that such laws do abuse other people’s rights.
Sibande hails from David Sibande village in the area of atarditional authority Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba district.
