A Kenyan police officer has reportedly committed suicide over financial troubles that had led him to incur a huge bank debt.

Constable Tyrus Omondi is said to have committed the offence on Tuesday inside his house in Kisimu.

According to a police report, Constable Tyrus Omondi hanged himself from the roof of his house using a rope.

The officer left behind a suicide note stating that he was in deep debt and his salary is negative as well.

A separate note found next to his body had calculations that included a listing of months of the year he presumably earned “negative salary”.

A name of a bank was also indicated in the piece of paper with the words “suicide”.

Police said investigations into the suicide are ongoing as they wait for postmortem results from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.

According to a relative who reported the suicide, she had gone to visit the police officer on Tuesday evening and found his door wide open after several unanswered calls.

The deceased left behind a wife and son who were away  when the incident happened.
