News outlets in UK have questioned the luxurious stay of President Peter Muntharika in Edinburg which has been described as extravagant contrary to Malawi’s economy.
According to one article published by Uk The Sunday Times, the president who comes from the worst poverty stricken country of Malawi ignored the poor state of his country’s economy and went on to spend nights in a five star hotel of Prestonfield in Scotland’s capital of Edinburgh.
The article further revealed that,
“The cost of just a single suite for one night is up to £450 — more than 30 times the £14 needed to feed a child for a year in Malawi, a landlocked country in southeast Africa.”
The president left the country for UK last month where he attended this year’s commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
After the CHOGM meeting, the president proceeded to Scotland where he fulfilled a number of engagements aimed at cementing the bilateral relations between Malawi and Scotland.
Meanwhile, reports say the revelations have caused anger in hearts of Scottish taxpayers from which the money to pay for the president’s bills at the said hotel where sourced from.
