A 24 year old man is in police custody in Likoma District for allegedly having in a hand in the gruesome murder and defilement of the of a standard 1 primary school pupil whose body was found on May 2, 2018.
The suspect has been identified as Arthur Mtambo, according to the statement made available to faceofmalawi reporter.
According to the statement, Mtambo was arrested on Wednesday 9th May, 2018 at around 1 o’clock in the afternoon at Chizumulu island following critical investigations led by Likoma station criminal investigation officer.
“The suspect will appear before court soon to answer 2 cases (1) Murder which is contrary to section 209 of penal code and attracts a penalty of death or life imprisonment (2)Defilement which is contrary to section 138 of penal code and attracts a penalty of imprisonment for life,” reads in part the statement.
Arthur Mtambo hails from Kabuthu village in Traditional Authority Mkumpha Likoma district.
